BOWLING GREEN MAN COOKS UP $52,000

Story Photo A cook at Illinois Light House restaurant in Louisiana whipped up $1,000 a week for a year when he recently uncovered a top prize in the Missouri Lottery’s "Weekly Grand" Scratchers game. Derrick Boyer, 21, of Bowling Green said he bought two "Weekly Grand" tickets when he stopped in Abel’s Quik Shop in Bowling Green for a soda one day on his way to work. The first ticket was clearly a $10 winner, but when the second ticket showed the prize as "GRAND," Boyer wasn’t sure what he had won. He had the clerk scan the ticket to find out that his second ticket was worth a $52,000 top prize.

Boyer said he plans to use the prize money to pay for culinary art school in St. Louis and to buy a Chevrolet truck. He already gave his $10 prize to the clerk who scanned his ticket.

"Weekly Grand," a $2 Scratchers game, officially went on sale July 27.
