Group of Kansas City Area Co-Workers Split $50,000 Prize

A group of 25 employees from Ferguson Fire and Fabrication in Kansas City are splitting a $50,000 Missouri Lottery Powerball prize. The group pooled money together to purchase Powerball tickets from Xpress Mart, 9040 E. U.S. Highway 40 in Independence, and used Quick Pick to correctly match four white-balls and the Powerball drawn in the Feb. 24 drawing.

Each member of the group will take home $2,000 before taxes. The 25-member group consists of:  Jerry Rice, Luis Hermosillo, Nicholas Beck, Robert Ontiveros, Enrique Reyes and Donald Adkins, all of Kansas City; Jody Kunzler, Aaron Kenyon, Matthew Beck, Leon Brown and Ryan Vasquez, all of Independence; Shannon Duncan, Allan Lenzing and James Lamison, all of Blue Springs; Ashlie Miller and Ryan Anderson, both of Grain Valley; Travis Cochran and Hajnalka Kiss, both of Overland Park, Kan.; Blaine Cooper of Carrollton; Dennis Arthur of Grandview; Nathan Anderson of Greenwood; Shawn Cornley of Lee’s Summit; Jack Berry of Mission, Kan.; James Miller of Raymore; and Susanne Stilwell of Sugar Creek.

“We play off and on throughout the year,” began Allan Lenzing, speaking on behalf of the group of co-workers. “We wait until the jackpot hits $100 million, then we start pooling together. We usually do $10 apiece.”

The day after the drawing, news quickly spread around the office about the group’s good fortune.

“My associate Jody was checking the tickets and found it. We all had to come over and double-check it a few times. We even announced it over the loud speaker,” laughed Lenzing, adding that a couple of other employees have already joined in the pool for the next drawing.

According the Lenzing, individual plans for their respective share of the $50,000 prize vary, ranging from a pool table, to bills, to a Florida vacation.

Powerball is a $2 per play multi-state Draw Game that features jackpots starting at $40 million. Powerball drawings are held on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 9:59 p.m. Research all current and past winning numbers here at MOLottery.com.
