OZARK WOMAN WINS $20,000 INSTANTLY

Story Photo After working a long night shift, an Ozark woman had a tough time catching up on her sleep when she returned home and found out she had won $20,000 on a $2 "Fun & Fortune" Scratchers ticket. Melva Lupton, 60, was too excited to sleep after her boyfriend broke the news to her.

Lupton, who works as a hospital supply distribution service technician for Cox Health Systems, purchased her winning ticket at Big Al’s Convenience, 1690 State Highway J in Ozark.

"I buy tickets every once in a while, but my boyfriend plays on a daily basis," said Lupton. "He used our winnings from other tickets to buy this one for me."

Lupton plans to use the money to pay some bills, buy a new computer monitor and put the rest in the bank. She also plans to use the money to help her boyfriend restore a 1968 Chevy pickup truck.

"Fun & Fortune" is the 416th Scratchers game offered by the Missouri Lottery. It officially went on sale June 22. The ticket also offers players a chance to win entries for a weekly drawing. Each week, 10 entry tickets are drawn from the entry tickets sent in that week. The 10 winners receive $500 each. In addition, one of the 10 preliminary winners is drawn for a chance to spin the wheel and win from $2,500 to $250,000.
