When Raed Mansour, 29, of Belton redeemed a $50,000 ticket from the Jan. 13 Powerball drawing, he explained that he’s not a regular Lottery player. In fact, he only bought tickets for the historic $1.5 billion drawing because his wife had been encouraged to play.

Mansour’s wife works in home healthcare, and one of her clients had given her a few dollars, telling her to “go ahead and play. Take care of your family.”

“I don’t play, but I had a feeling about it,” he said of their good luck. “Maybe because it was the first time.”

Future plans include saving their winnings and “thinking of something smart to do with it.”

The Mansours purchased the winning Quick Pick ticket at Shell, 7905 E. 171st St., in Belton.

Powerball is a multi-state Draw Game with jackpots that start at $40 million and grow until someone wins. The Jan. 13 drawing for $1.5 billion was the world’s largest lottery jackpot to date. The winning numbers drawn that night were:  4, 8, 19, 27, 34 and the Powerball was 10.
