Powerball Jackpot Raised to $900 Million

Tonight’s Powerball jackpot has been raised to a record $900 million, making it the largest jackpot ever offered in U.S. history. The cash value of the jackpot is estimated at $558 million.

“While it is fun to dream about winning an enormous jackpot like this, it is imperative that players buy tickets responsibly,” said May Scheve Reardon, executive director of the Missouri Lottery. “We don’t want people using money they don’t have or money they need for essential items to play. It only takes one ticket to win.”

“If you want a chance at this record-breaking jackpot, you should buy your ticket early, since we anticipate long lines,” Reardon said. “Players in Missouri have until 8:59 p.m. to purchase Powerball tickets for tonight’s drawing.”

Reardon also noted the importance of signing your ticket immediately after you buy it and putting it in a safe place.

“Like cash, if you drop or lose your ticket, without your signature, anyone can claim it,” she explained. “Treat it as though it were a winner until you know otherwise.”

Of the 47 lotteries that offer Powerball, Missouri is ranked second in terms of Powerball jackpot winners with 31.
