A Lake St. Louis couple is planning to pay off their home mortgage after winning a third-tier $50,000 prize in the Nov. 21 Powerball drawing. Brandi Gregory, 34, and her husband, Brian Gregory, 36, also may use some of the prize winnings to take a vacation to Australia next year.

“We were planning to go before, but now we have a little more help,” said Brandi, who is a pediatric nurse.

As for the money coming in time for the holidays, she said it will “make things a little better.”

Brandi purchased the winning ticket at Schnucks Market, 101 Civic Center Drive, in Lake St. Louis. She said she buys two Powerball plays and one Mega Millions play “randomly, every couple months.” She let the computer terminal generate the winning numbers.

On Nov. 24, she was at home, found the tickets in her wallet, and checked the numbers on the Internet to see if they were winners. To her surprise, one of the Powerball plays matched all four white-ball numbers and the Powerball number drawn to win a $50,000 prize.

“He didn’t believe me at all,” Brandi said, recalling how she called to tell Brian, a web developer, who was at work. “I had to send a picture of the actual ticket.”

Powerball is a twice-weekly Draw Game with jackpots that start at $40 million and grow until someone wins. For more information, go to MOLottery.com.
