“What does the ticket say when you hit the jackpot? Well, now I know,” laughed David McLaughlin, while claiming his $250,000 jackpot from the Nov. 18 drawing on the Missouri Lottery’s $250K Triple Play Draw Game.

Every Thursday, McLaughlin purchases a sampler of Draw Games from Britton’s Quick Shop, 8730 Highway 21 in Hillsboro, including a $250K Triple Play ticket.

“This one Triple Play said, ‘Claim at Lottery,’ I’d never seen that. So I set it aside and go through the rest,” said McLaughlin.

Confused by the message, McLaughlin, 65, took the one $250K Triple Play ticket to the store’s clerk to have her check to see if he had won a prize.

“She goes ahead and scans it, the little ticket pops out and I see her eyes get kind of big.”

It was in that moment that McLaughlin learned that larger winning tickets, including jackpot-winning tickets, say, “Claim at Lottery,” after being scanned.

The ecstatic winner continued, recalling how accommodating the location’s staff was with him after realizing he had just won a jackpot prize,

“She got her manager. I’m shaking anyhow; I didn’t even know what to do. He told me that there was one winner, and it was me. He folded (the ticket), and he put it in my pocket…He told me where (the Lottery’s St. Louis regional office) was, and this is where I ended up.”

McLaughlin, the director of plant operations at St. Luke’s Hospital, wasted no time and immediately claimed his ticket that day. While claiming his prize, the father – admittedly still shaken by the win – confessed that in his excitement, he had forgotten to tell his wife or their two sons about his $250,000 prize.

As far as spending his prize, McLaughlin had no concrete plans other than the possibility of purchasing a newer fishing boat.

The winning $250K Triple Play numbers for the Nov. 18 drawing were:  2, 27, 46 and 47. McLaughlin used Quick Pick to allow the computer to automatically select his numbers. His win marks the 12th time the top prize has been won since the game was introduced in 2014. For selling the winning jackpot ticket, Britton’s Quick Shop received a $1,000 bonus check.
