A certified nurses’ assistant was just getting off work in Rolla when she landed the prize of a lifetime. Maria Loosa of St. James bought a $4 million winning Scratchers ticket at Rolla Motomart, 119 Howard Johnson Drive, in Rolla. Loosa, 50, explained that she normally plays $5 and $10 games, but after winning a few rounds on $20 tickets, she went for the last game available and uncovered the $4 million prize.

“This morning, I bought a $20 one (ticket) and won $50. Then, I bought another $20 and put the remaining $30 in my pocket,” she recalled.

She won $50 on that ticket, leading her to try the remaining $20 game at the store, a “$100 Million Cash Bonanza” Scratchers ticket.

After uncovering the $4 million prize, Loosa called for Mike, the store manager and a friend of the family. He told her, “You just won $4 million!”

“And then I was jumping up and down,” she said.

Loosa said she wasn’t going to be “stupid” about spending the money, and she offered a list of things she planned to do. She is going to keep her job and buy a new car.

“I’m going to look for a house,” she said. “We always said, if we win $100,000, we’re going to get a new car and buy a house. I’m going to get braces for my grandkids, Christmas shop and pay some bills.”

And she’ll keep playing the Lottery.

“I’m going to keep playing,” said Loosa.

“You don’t need to, now,” said her husband, Hector.

Loosa is choosing the lump sum of $2.6 million, as opposed to taking the $4 million over a 20-year period. She claimed the first top prize in the game.

$100 Million Cash Bonanza” is a $20 game that officially began Aug. 4, 2014. More than $72 million in prizes, including three more top prizes, remain in the game.
