A Waynesville woman who recently retired from the military is considering her options after winning the first top prize on a Missouri Lottery holiday Scratchers game. Sharon Jackson, 42, said she decided to take a chance on the “Garland Riches” ticket because it was new.

“I just stopped at the store. I was on my way to the gym,” said Jackson. “I actually got a $10 and a $5 (ticket), the new Christmas ones. I just tried it – I saw it was a new card.”

She won on the $10 “Garland Riches” game. Jackson purchased the tickets at LMC Convenience Store, 1302 Historic 66 West, in Waynesville. She said she uncovered the prize while sitting in her car, waiting for her spin class to begin.

Plans for the windfall are simple. Jackson said she planned to “pay bills” and help pay for her son’s college expenses. She indicated that with another child approaching college age, some of the money would be used to fund her education, as well.

Garland Riches” is a $10 game that officially began Oct. 19. All of the holiday-themed Scratchers, as well as Draw Game tickets, are eligible for entry in the “Second Chance of a Lifetime – Holiday Chill Out” promotion. Players have the chance to win trips to world-class spa locations, Missouri Stay-cations or weekly prizes of merchandise in the holiday promotion.

The Missouri Lottery reminds players not to give Lottery tickets as gifts to people under 18 years of age.
