Christmas Comes Early for Kirksville Couple

“Christmas came early for us,” according to Kirksville resident Evelyn Jeffries, after she uncovered a $10,000 prize on a Missouri Lottery “Garland Riches” Scratchers ticket she purchased at Ayerco, 2214 N. Baltimore, in Kirksville.

Jeffries and her husband, Jacob, had been at home talking about the holidays, when she pulled the two Scratchers tickets she had just bought from her purse.

“He took one, and I took one,” she recalled, explaining how each of them began to scratch the ticket they held.

She said it was her ticket that yielded a surprise that almost gave her a heart attack.

“She kept hollering, ‘No way!’ and she kept getting louder and louder,” Jacob teased. “I didn’t know if I should run or what!”

He added that the prize money will “take a lot of the pressure off … with the bills… Christmas…”

“Garland Riches,” which offers a top prize of $250,000, officially started Oct. 19.

All non-winning holiday-themed tickets, including “Garland Riches,” are eligible for entry into the “Second Chance of a Lifetime:  Holiday Chill Out” promotion, where players have the chance to win their choice of a world-class retreat, a Missouri Stay-cation or $1,000 in cash – all taxes paid.

Remaining prizes for this $10 game, as well as all other Missouri Lottery Scratchers tickets, can be tracked at MOLottery.com.
The Missouri Lottery reminds players not to give Lottery tickets as gifts for children under 18 years old.
