A diversion during a football game is how one Park Hills man ended up with a winning Missouri Lottery Scratchers ticket worth $50,000. Gary Gettinger, 53, explained that he got a ticket to scratch while watching Monday Night Football.

“I had to go over it about three or four times. I first thought I won $5,000,” recalled Gettinger. “Finally, I started writing down every word that was completed. I came up with 11.”

He won the prize on a “10X Crossword” Scratchers ticket he purchased at Casey’s General Store, 1100 N. Desloge Drive, in Desloge. Players spell words to determine the prize amount. Gettinger couldn’t believe what he was seeing.

“To be honest, it’s probably only the fourth or fifth crossword (ticket) I’ve ever bought,” he said. “I’ve been playing the ‘Win All’ (Scratchers game.) I buy Powerball every once in a while.”

Gettinger said he would probably pay off his house and help his kids with the $50,000 windfall. The tree trimmer called his co-workers and boss with the news that he would have to take a day off to go claim his prize.

“Got to go to the Lottery office,” he explained.

He hopes to return some day and said that he’ll keep playing.

10X Crossword” is a $3 game that officially began June 1. The game still has $3 million in prizes remaining, including two more top prizes of $50,000. Track prizes remaining for any Missouri Lottery Scratchers game here at MOLottery.com.
