A St. Joseph woman is now considering retirement after winning a $100,000 Missouri Lottery prize. Carole Danback explained that she’s always worked as a caregiver, but now that she has won $100,000 on a Scratchers ticket, she can devote the rest of her time to caring for herself. Danback won the prize on a “Double Triple Crossword” ticket she bought at Speedy Convenience, 1704 Mitchell Ave., in St. Joseph.

“I just enjoy them,” she said about the crossword ticket. “They take a little bit longer to scratch, and I enjoy something that takes a little longer.”

She was scratching the ticket at home when she uncovered the first top prize in the game.

“I sat there in disbelief,” recalled Danback. “And then I showed my husband and said, ‘I think I won $100,000.’ He said, ‘You’ve got to be kidding me.’”

Danback has won smaller prizes before, including one “years ago” that enabled her to buy a VCR. This win is enabling something much greater.

“I think with this money, I can go on and enjoy my retirement. I don’t have to work anymore,” said the 70-year-old.

She’ll keep playing the Lottery, but cautioned other players to do so responsibly.

“Don’t spend more than you can afford,” said Danback. “The clerks are always asking if I’m playing today. Sometimes I have to say, ‘I’m on the wagon.’”

Double Triple Crossword” is a $5 game that officially began June 20. Track prizes remaining for any Missouri Lottery Scratchers game here at MOLottery.com.
