A Desloge woman took a chance on a Missouri Lottery Scratchers game because “she never won on those.” She has to change her story after winning the top prize of $100,000. Ava Thompson, 56, took a $10 winning “MONOPOLY™” ticket to Casey’s General Store, 1100 N. Desloge Dr. in Desloge, to cash it in and trade for more tickets. She settled on two $5 “20X The Money” Scratchers tickets.

“I said, ‘Oh, just give me two of those. I never win on them anyway,” recalled Thompson. “I got out to my car and scratched off the first one. I kept getting more numbers, and I thought, ‘This ain’t right.’ So I scratched the amount, and it said, ‘$5,000.’ I went, ‘Oh my gosh.’

“And then I scratched off 10 more ‘$5,000’ (prizes). I couldn’t believe it.”
Thompson won the fourth top prize in the game. Three more top prizes, and more than $7 million in other prizes, remain.

She called her boyfriend and said, “I need to come home.”

“I said, ‘I won. I think I won big!’” Thompson declared.

Plans for the windfall include “paying off bills” and looking for a new vehicle. One of the things Thompson is most excited about is a Sleep Number® bed.

“All I know is you’ve got to play to win,” she concluded.

20X The Money” is a $5 game that officially began May 18.
