A St. Louis man recently went back to playing his own numbers and promptly won a $153,000 Missouri Lottery jackpot. Terry Chamberlain, 62, explained that he plays Show Me Cash and other games when the jackpots “get up there.” He used to pick his own numbers, but didn’t feel like he was winning much. After hearing another winner talk about how he picked his numbers, Chamberlain told his wife, Michelle, they should go back to their own numbers.

“The guy, Tom Rea, that won the $70 million (Powerball jackpot), I actually went to school with him. During his conversation, he had mentioned that he had been playing the same numbers for 23 years and they finally came in,” recalled Chamberlain. “I talked to my wife and said, ‘You know, maybe we should go back to playing those same numbers again.’

“So I did, and sure enough. That was the first time I played them in all those years, and they came up.”

He bought the winning ticket at 7-Eleven, 8250 Watson Road, in St. Louis. The store received a $500 bonus for selling the winning ticket. The winning numbers for the Aug. 22 Show Me Cash drawing were:  5, 6, 17, 27 and 31.

“My birthday is in May, so that was the five. My wife’s birthday is in June; that was the six. Both of our dates are the 17th, and then when we got married, she was 27, and I was 31. That’s how we picked them,” explained Chamberlain.

He added that he probably wouldn’t play them anymore on Show Me Cash, but he was definitely going to play similar numbers on Lotto, Powerball and Mega Millions.

When he checked the numbers on MOLottery.com, he knew what he was seeing.

“I looked at it, went out to the car to get the tickets, came back in and looked at it again,” he said. “I recognized the numbers right off the bat, but I just kind of wanted to verify it in my head.

“My wife was sitting there, and I kind of turned the computer and said, ‘Read those numbers for the Show Me Cash.’ She read the first two and said, ‘Those are our numbers.’”

“Yes, they are!” was his reply.

A park supervisor employed by St. Louis County Parks for 37 years, Chamberlain was excited about what the win might mean.

“This may be the way that we can pay off our house, and I can start looking harder at retirement,” he declared.

He had good things to say about Show Me Cash, and not only because he’s the 368th jackpot winner in the game.

“It builds fast, and it’s easier to win. It seems like there are a lot of people that win it,” he concluded.

Show Me Cash is a daily Draw Game with jackpots that start at $50,000. In the last 12 months, a total of 44 Show Me Cash jackpots have been awarded for an average amount of $193,000.
