Kent Wicker, 30, was doing a happy dance on Aug. 18 after he uncovered a $100,000 top prize on the $5 “MONOPOLY™” Scratchers ticket he purchased from Pilot Travel Center, 825 N. Loop Drive, in Sullivan.

“We were on our way out to Springfield for work,” began the highway worker. “We all stopped there to eat breakfast, and I randomly bought a ticket.”

Wicker claimed his $100,000 prize at the Lottery’s Springfield regional office later the same day.

“Actually, last night, I won $100 on a $10 ‘MONOPOLY’ ticket, which kind of queued me to buy another one this morning,” continued Wicker.

While claiming the $100,000, the father-of-two recalled the moment he realized he had won his prize.

“There were nine of us at the table when I started scratching it. One of them took it out of my hand to make sure I was reading it right. Everybody wanted to see it to make sure it wasn’t a prank. Once I realized it was legit, I did a little dance.”

Wicker plans to use his winnings to purchase a newer vehicle and find a new place to live.

The $5 “MONOPOLY™” ticket is one of four tickets included in the newest family of Scratchers games with the “MONOPOLY” theme. Introduced on Aug. 3, the $5 ticket offers players more than $17 million in prizes ranging from $5 to $100,000. An updated list of remaining prize amounts for all Scratchers games can be found here at MOLottery.com.
