Bryan Bock of Lincoln stays busy with cows and selling trucks at his car lot, Bock Auto Sales, in Versailles. But when the jackpots on the Missouri Lottery’s state Draw Games, Lotto and Show Me Cash, get big, Bock will throw a few dollars at trying to win. He had $200 worth of Quick Pick tickets for the $5.7 million Lotto drawing on Aug. 8, and one of them turned out to be the winning combination.

“Once they get up to a certain point, I play heavier,” explained Bock. “Saturday night, before we went home, after we went to the sale barn about five o’clock, I said, ‘I’m going to go get another $100 worth of tickets. It’s up there.’”

Bock said they play at different stores around Versailles, but he bought this round at Casey’s General Store, 608 W. Newton St., in Versailles. He checked his tickets on Sunday after the drawing at another store closer to home.

“We got up Sunday morning, never thought anything about it. It was warm already,” Bock recalled. “We decided to go up and have a Coke and check the tickets. We got all the way down to the bottom of the pile, and like the second or third ticket, Ka-bam! There it was.”

Bock poked his partner, Joyce Shocker, with a look that said, “Did you see that?” He scanned it again, and then the two sat down in shock.

“She kind of teared up a little bit, and then we just both sat down in our chairs, finished our Cokes and looked at one another goofy,” said Bock.
Plans for the windfall were simple: get out of debt. Bock is opting for the lump sum of $2.85 million.
“We’re going to pay everything off:  credit cards, debt, what we owe on the used car lot,” listed Bock. “We’re going to buy a few more cows. If we handle this right, we’ll have ourselves set up.”
He was unsure if he would continue to play the Lottery. He did note that Show Me Cash often has big jackpots with great chances of winning and that fortune smiled on him once.
“We bought a handful of cows, and I said, ‘Let’s stop and get another $100 worth of tickets. I want to pick up a handful of feed.’ So we did,” Bock mused. “Boom. Sunday morning, and here we sit.”
Casey’s General Stores received a $5,000 bonus for selling a winning Lotto jackpot ticket.
Lotto is a twice-weekly Draw Game with jackpots that start at $1 million. As the longest-running Missouri Lottery game, Lotto has created 230 millionaires. Players get two plays for $1, and drawings are held on Wednesday and Saturday nights.
