A Tough Decision Finds A $100,000 Result

A Carrollton resident was faced with a tough dilemma on Aug. 11:  satisfy his hungry appetite and buy biscuits and gravy, or have the chance to win thousands and purchase a Missouri Lottery Scratchers ticket. Colten Wellman, 19, decided to wait until he got home to eat, and instead purchased a “Heaps of $500s” Scratchers ticket from Casey’s General Store, 200 E. state Route 92, in Kearney.

“I had picked two (tickets) up the previous night and had won $7,” began Wellman. “I came back and was debating on buying another ticket or biscuits and gravy.”

The decision paid off for the welder. The “Heaps of $500s” ticket he purchased contained a $100,000 top prize.

“I saw the first two (matched) numbers and saw that they both had $20,000 with them and had to call my dad and mom,” recalled Wellman, who added that both parents were pretty hysterical when they received the news.

Wellman claimed his $100,000 prize at Lottery Headquarters in Jefferson City the same morning he purchased the ticket, and had already made up his mind to purchase a brand new diesel truck with his Lottery win.

“I’ve been saving up for one for a while,” said the relieved winner.

Heaps of $500s” is a $5 Scratchers ticket with more than $5 million in total prizes remaining. Wellman is the fourth Missouri Lottery player to claim a $100,000 top prize, with one other remaining. Find more information on all Missouri Lottery games at MOLottery.com.
