A retired military woman from Warrensburg turned her daily fun into a $100,000 payday playing Missouri Lottery Scratchers tickets. Georgianna Watkins-Richardson, 57, said she enjoys buying crossword tickets at her daily stop, Country Market, 410 E. Young Ave. in Warrensburg.

“I go almost every day, because I get my newspapers there, and I get groceries there,” explained Watkins-Richardson. “I usually only get three a day.”

She went on to relate that while she normally stops at three $5 “$100,000 Crossword Doubler” tickets, a malfunction with the Lottery machine pressed her to buy an extra ticket. That was the $100,000 winner. She scratched it at the store and at first thought it was a $10,000 winner.

“Everybody got excited,” she recalled. “Then I went home and realized I missed one letter, so it ended up being a $100,000 instead of $10,000.”

Watkins-Richardson, whose husband is also retired from the military, planned to keep it simple with regard to the windfall.

“Save it,” she said. “I have everything I want and everything I need. We are totally debt free, and I intend to stay that way, because once we retire for good, we’re done. Never work again.”
