An El Dorado Springs man is the first Missouri Lottery player to claim a top prize from the “Diamond Tripler” Scratchers game. Alan Eck, 64, bought the winning ticket at S & B Liquors, 420 E. Highway 54 in El Dorado Springs.

“I just got done putting a sump pump in my basement. I was hot, and I went to get a beer,” began Eck. “I bought a ticket, and I won.”

Eck, 64, said he chose the $3 “Diamond Tripler” game at random. He said he usually sticks to the $1 through $5 games.

“I’ve won $1,000 a couple times; $1,100 on one,” he said.

He thought he won a similar amount this time, until he added it all up.

“My heart stopped for a second, then kicked back in,” he recalled.

Eck said he plans to bank much of it, since he is considering retirement from 3M in the next few years.

“I’ll probably pay off my truck,” he suggested.

Diamond Tripler” officially began June 8. To date, more than $8 million in prizes, including four top prizes, remain in the game.
