Kathleen Civey of Camdenton almost didn’t buy a winning Missouri Lottery ticket, and then she didn’t realize she had won $20,000 until friends encouraged her to keep scratching. She was tired after a long day at Signal Food Store, 134 E. U.S. Highway 54 in Camdenton, and the line was long.

“And then when the line went down, I was like, ‘OK, I’ll get one. Give me a “Silver and Gold,”’ and that was it,” recalled Civey, 53.

She started scratching the $5 “Silver and Gold” Scratchers game in her car. When she uncovered a $10,000 prize, she posted a picture of the ticket on Facebook. That’s when one of her friends called.

“Neither one of us paid attention to the other ‘22s.’ One of my girlfriends called and said, ‘Would you reveal the rest of the ticket?’’’ Civey recalled with an exasperated voice. “So I pulled over on the side of the road, locked the door, turned on the dome light and found the rest of the ‘22s.’ It’s $20,000!”

Her husband, Guy, an automotive manager at Walmart, joined her in Jefferson City to claim her prize on June 8. They were certain about how they were going to spend it.

“I’m going to remodel the house and pay for the wedding,” said Kathleen. Her youngest daughter recently announced plans to get married.

“Get debt free!” added Guy.

“And now, I’m going to go for a vacation,” continued Kathleen.

Silver and Gold” officially began Sept. 8, 2014. More than $4 million in prizes, including one top prize of $100,000, remain in the game.
