A stop for coffee and a doughnut put one Adrian man in the right spot at the right time to win a $100,000 Missouri Lottery prize. Terry Bohannon, 66, said he wasn’t planning on playing the Lottery when he got to the counter at Commercial Street Conoco, 1801 S. Commercial St. in Harrisonville.

“When I got up to the counter, there was a lady who was wanting a Lottery ticket. The kid pulled out the wrong ticket, which was the ticket I bought. I told him not to put it back, I would just go ahead and take it,” he explained.

Bohannon, who is retired but still does carpentry work, headed to a job site north of Harrisonville, but not for long.

“It was on the back. $20,000 under a five times the money deal,” he recalled about scratching the ticket. “I picked up all my tools, closed the job down and went home to tell my wife.

“We kind of scratched around and got a house built, and we’re not quite finished with some of it. This is going to finish our house up; more than finish it up.”

Happy with himself for seizing the opportunity, Bohannon suggested others should try the Lottery, too.

“Don’t go crazy with buying your tickets, but I’d say it wouldn’t hurt to buy one now and then and take your chances,” he said.

$100,000 Safe Cracker” is a $5 game that officially began Dec. 1, 2014. Bohannon claimed the final top prize in the game.
