A convenience store manager decided to take a chance on one of the Missouri Lottery games he sells every day. Sergio Reyes of Aurora said he doesn’t play often, but the idea of killing a little time on the “5X Bingo” Scratchers game seemed like a fair trade. He didn’t expect to win the top prize of $55,558.
“Just a one-time kind of deal, you know. I bought a ticket and got lucky,” said Reyes, 44.
He uncovered the prize at his home, but didn’t really know how much it was worth until he claimed at Lottery headquarters in Jefferson City.
“I was pretty surprised. We were really excited,” he recalled. “I’ve never really won anything. I started looking at it, and it said something about $50,000. I wasn’t sure what it was total.”
Reyes said the money would be used to pay bills and fund a family vacation this summer.
Although he sells Lottery tickets at the store where he works, Superior Food Mart, 429 W. Church St. in Aurora, he added that the experience has changed his perception of the Lottery.
“You don’t really see people, you know, that they win and this and that,” explained Reyes. “I’m more of a believer now. People do actually win. It only takes one.”
5X Bingo” is a $3 game that officially began Jan. 26. Three top prizes of $55,558 remain in the game.
