A St. Charles pharmacy employee has been playing the Missouri Lottery for years. His dedication finally paid off when Gregory Pinson won the $174,000 Show Me Cash jackpot on May 3. Pinson said he regularly plays Powerball, Mega Millions, Lotto and Show Me Cash, when the jackpot is right.

“I just bought one of the Show Me Cash,” he recalled. “It just depends on how much it is. Usually, if it’s at $50,000, a lot of times I won’t play it necessarily, but if it goes up a little, then I’ll start playing it.”

Pinson found out he was a winner by scanning his ticket on a “Check-A-Ticket” machine. He said “shock” was the best way to describe the feeling.

“I was shocked,” he said. “I don’t remember screaming or hollering or anything like that. I was just shocked to see it. I was really surprised. I ran it five or six times before I realized it was a winning ticket.”

He had some trouble convincing his wife, Irene, of the windfall. But once he did, they knew how to spend the money.

“For starters, right off the bat, we want to pay off our house,” said Pinson, 59. “I’m fixing to retire in a couple of years, and I want to get debt-free. It’ll be nice having that paid off.”

He also said they would help their three sons and have a little fun.

He committed to continue playing the games, including his favorite, Lotto.

“It’s just fun to play. I really enjoy playing all the games,” he said. “Keep on playing. Good things come to those who wait. I’ve been playing for 25 years, so, don’t give up.”

Show Me Cash is a daily Draw Game with jackpots that start at $50,000 and grow until someone wins.

Pinson claimed jackpot number 357 in the history of the game. In the last 12 months, 47 Show Me Cash jackpots have been awarded for an average amount of more than $190,000.

St. Andrews Mini Mart, 2000 Campus Drive in St. Charles, where Pinson bought his ticket, received a $500 bonus for selling the winning jackpot ticket.
