Lifelong Friends Share Lottery Prize

Tears and prayers followed a recent $100,000 Missouri Lottery Scratchers top-prize win. Three longtime family/friends from the Kansas City area claimed the prize on April 9, the same day the ticket was purchased. Erica Murphy, 26, Tanesha Maddox, 18, and Markel Robinson-Hill, 18, purchased their winning “20X The Cash” Scratchers ticket from Snap & Go, 8201 E. Bannister Road, in Kansas City.
While at a family member’s house, the three friends uncovered their prize and were initially hesitant to believe their good fortune.
“At first, we had to make sure it was real. We kept scratching and numbers kept adding up. We were at a loss for words,” began Murphy. “We thought it was $30,000,” added Maddox.
The trio was surrounded by other family members when they realized they had uncovered a total of $100,000 in prizes.
“There was a lot of crying. We got together and prayed after,” discussed the group.
While claiming their prize at the Lottery’s Kansas City office, none of the group’s members had any immediate plans for their share of the $100,000 prize. All three decided to wait until they got their checks to make any decisions.
20X The Cash” is a $5 Scratchers game that was officially introduced on Dec. 30, 2013. Murphy, Maddox and Robinson-Hill uncovered the seventh top prize in the game. Track all Missouri Lottery Scratchers information here at MOLottery.com.
