Lottery Player Wins More Than She Anticipated

Read your Lottery tickets carefully; a Fulton woman who thought she had won $30,000 on a Missouri Lottery Scratchers ticket was surprised to learn that she actually won $50,000. Teresa Fort, 52, was on a Lottery-winning streak on April 7 at Mr. Convenience, 230 E. McCarty St., in Jefferson City.

“I bought two $5 (tickets) and won $40, and then I bought two $10 (tickets) and won $40 again. Then I bought a $20 ticket and won $100,” laughed Fort, adding that she likes to play responsibly by stopping play once she does not win. “It seemed like everything I grabbed was hitting.”

Feeling lucky after the $100 win, Fort purchased a “Mega Multiplier Playbook.”

“The first number I matched was for $5,000. So I went ahead and kept scratching and then I saw a star,” she said

In the “Mega Multiplier Playbook,” uncovering a “star” symbol automatically wins the corresponding prize. Realizing that she had won what she thought was $30,000, the wife and mother-of-two stopped playing and headed to Lottery Headquarters. However, in her haste, Fort did not uncover the rest of her Scratchers ticket. While claiming, the winner was overjoyed to learn that she actually won a total of $50,000.

At the time of claiming, the excited mother said that she plans to pay off bills and put the rest of her winnings towards her two son’s college tuitions. Before leaving to get lunch with her husband to celebrate her $50,000 win, Fort divulged that she had also won $10,000 in 2011.

Mega Multiplier Playbook” is the second Playbook-style Scratchers game offered by the Missouri Lottery. The $20 game, which was introduced on Feb. 2, features six games in a single “book” and top prizes of $250,000. The game currently has more than $21 million in remaining prizes.
