No April Fool’s joke here! David Manning, 25, uncovered a $1 million top prize on a Missouri Lottery “50X The Cash” Scratchers ticket on April 1, and next to none of his family and friends believed him.
“Everybody thought it was a joke, and I had forgotten that it was (April) first, actually. Now I understand why nobody believed me,” laughed the Salem resident.
The new millionaire purchased his winning ticket from Phil-Mart, 500 S. Main in Salem, on April 1, and claimed his prize at Lottery Headquarters in Jefferson City later the same day.
Manning uncovered the $1 million prize while at home with his fiancée, Natalie.
“She had just finished getting ready, and I scratched it and started screaming and jumping for joy and just started laughing,” recalled Manning. “She was like, ‘No way!’ and just stopped. She forgot how to do everything.”
The recently engaged couple is excited to begin their married life $1 million richer and, aside from paying for the upcoming nuptials, have already made plans for the windfall.
“We just got her a new car, so I’m going to pay my car off and pay her car off. I got her a ring, and we are going to pay that off,” began Manning.
The couple said that they had planned on moving to Florida after getting married and rent an apartment, but they will now consider purchasing property with the winnings.

“I want to be a pilot and fly helicopters. I was going to get a loan out to do that, but I won’t have to do that now,” concluded Manning.

50X The Cash” is a $10 Missouri Lottery Scratchers ticket that was officially introduced on Dec. 30, 2013. Manning was the third player to claim a $1 million top prize. The game currently has more than $2 million in remaining prizes. Search all remaining prizes at MOLottery.com.
