Nothing Wrong with Glasses; Ticket is $100,000 Winner

A Springfield man had a minor lapse of faith in his reading glasses after uncovering a $100,000 top prize on a Missouri Lottery “$100,000 Safe Cracker” Scratchers ticket. John Brooks made the discovery on a ticket he purchased at Signal Food Store, 2810 Battlefield, in Springfield.

In what he now calls “an unbelievable day,” Brooks got a bite to eat after church, stopped for a paper and then “ended up getting a few $5 (Scratchers) tickets.” As he scratched the winning ticket, he started to notice his matches to the game’s winning numbers.

“I thought, ‘Wow,’ and I scratched some more,” he explained. “Then I thought there must be a smudge, so I took off my reading glasses.”

By the time all five of the $20,000 prizes were revealed, he decided to clean his glasses one more time.

“I was really thrilled,” he continued, still laughing at his experience. “My wife is in California babysitting some beautiful grandchildren, so I sent her a picture of the ticket and told her to call me. She was overjoyed.

“You think this always happens to other people…” he concluded.

“$100,000 Safe Cracker” is a $5 game that officially began Dec. 1, 2014, with more than $15 million available in total prizes. All remaining prizes for the game can be tracked at MOLottery.com.
