A St. Louis man is the second person to claim a second-place prize in the Missouri Lottery’s Lucky for Life Draw Game. Joseph Holland bought his winning ticket at JMK Mobil, 707 N. Kingshighway, in St. Louis. The retired union painter is a regular player of Lottery games, and although the second prize of $25,000 a year will pay for a lifetime, Holland is opting for the lump-sum payout of $390,000.

“At our age, I think that’s smart,” said Holland. “I’m going to keep playing; put some numbers in Thursday.”

He said he learned he was a winner while checking the winning numbers in the newspaper.

“I looked in the newspaper,” said Holland. “That’s the way I always check my winnings. I couldn’t believe it.”

He didn’t offer any plans for the windfall.

“I’m going to take care of a few important things,” he said. “I’ve got a lot of grandkids. I’ve got to make them happy.”
Lucky for Life is a twice-weekly Draw Game with drawings on Mondays and Thursdays. The top prize is a $1,000 a day for life.
