A Black Jack man took $22 worth of winning Missouri Lottery Scratchers tickets and parlayed them into a $5,000 prize. Elliot Thompson Sr. used his winnings to purchase five “$5,000 Taxes Paid” Scratchers tickets at Shop ‘n Save, 196 Mayfair Plaza, in Florissant. He said he never expected to uncover the top prize, but he was sure glad he did.

“I’m fairly lucky,” claimed Thompson. “I win a lot of little pots. I’ve won $100 quite a few times. This is the largest amount I’ve ever won.”

The 67-year-old retiree said he would he was going to “sit” on the windfall for now, but he did promise a “reward” to his wife, five children, nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

“I’m going to buy a flat panel (TV) for the family room,” he declared.

“When you get old, you don’t spend your money as much,” he added with a laugh.

Thompson admitted he is a regular Lottery player, and he committed to continue playing. He has several people amongst family and friends that have dreamt he would win the Lottery.

“I’m just building up to it right now,” he said. “Everybody has dreams. If you don’t have dreams sometimes, something is wrong. So, you know, it’s nice to dream!”

$5,000 Taxes Paid” is a $1 game that officially began Dec. 29, 2014. The game features a top prize of $5,000 and includes tax withholding. More than $5 million in prizes, including four top prizes, remain in the game.
