Army Veteran Celebrates Lottery Win

A love for crossword-themed Missouri Lottery Scratchers games has paid off for Eric Heath in the form of a $50,000 top prize. The 57-year-old Army veteran purchased his winning “Crossword Time!” Scratchers ticket from Pete’s Shur-Sav Market, 1301 Union Blvd., in St. Louis on Feb. 16.
“I could hardly believe it. I had to look at the ticket 10 or 12 times before it felt real,” recalled the St. Louis resident.
Heath, a supervisor for an electrical department at a home improvement store, said that he did not have his ticket checked until he claimed at a Lottery office on Feb. 18.
“I was nervous to carry that thing around. I kept it in an inconspicuous place that nobody would think to look,” said Heath, while discussing what he did with the ticket after he found out he had won a top prize.
With part of his Lottery win, Heath is planning on going back home to southern Maine in May to watch one of his five grandchildren graduate high school.
“My granddaughter asked me a few months ago if I could make it to her graduation ceremony, but I told her I would have to see if I could make it happen financially. Needless to say, that’s not an issue anymore,” concluded the humbled grandfather.
Crossword Time!” is a $3 Scratchers game that officially began on Nov. 24, 2014. Heath is the third Lottery player to claim one of eight $50,000 top prizes. Find information on all Scratchers games here at MOLottery.com.
