A 28-year-old Independence woman is planning to take her two young children to Walt Disney World® after winning $10,000 in the Feb. 11 Powerball drawing. Tiffany McElhany said she has wanted to take her kids, who are 3 and 6, to the theme park, and now she can afford it.

“We will probably go at the end of May, when school is out,” she said.

McElhany bought her winning Quick Pick ticket at Bubbles Liquors, 3717 S. Noland Road, in Independence. She said it was “one of those last-minute things” she decided to do, when she bought two Powerball plays.

In addition to Disney World, McElhany and her boyfriend plan to use some of her winnings to remodel their house and fix up the backyard, including a new swing set.

Powerball is a $2 multi-state Draw Game that features jackpots starting at $40 million. More than 111,000 winning tickets were sold in Missouri for the $500 million jackpot drawing on Feb. 11, totaling more than $3.6 million in prizes. Powerball drawings are held on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 9:59 p.m. Research all current and past winning numbers at MOLottery.com.
