A St. Charles woman’s impulse decision to buy a Missouri Lottery Scratchers ticket is returning her a top prize with taxes paid. While getting gas on Feb. 1, Katie Allen, 29, decided to buy a $2 “$20,000 Taxes Paid” Scratchers ticket from Hazelwood 66, 7323 N. Lindbergh Blvd., in St. Charles. The decision is paying off for the mother-of-three in the form of $20,000.
“I scratched the ticket in my car and saw that it was a winner, so I handed it to my 8-year-old son to see how much the ticket was worth. He said it was a $20 winner,” began the excited mother, while claiming her ticket at the Lottery’s St. Louis regional office on Feb. 2.
Allen, who works for a non-profit organization, stopped by another Missouri Lottery retailer later in the day to cash in, what she thought, was a $20 ticket and was surprised when the clerk had her take a second look.
“He said you may want to look at this again; I’m pretty sure there’s a few more zeros,” recalled the St. Charles resident, joking that she and her son may have to work on his numbers.

Allen continued saying that her husband, who is normally the one who plays the Lottery, was overjoyed to hear of his wife’s good fortune. The couple is hoping to become first-time home buyers by putting the $20,000 down as a down payment on a home.
$20,000 Taxes Paid” is the $2 ticket in a family of tickets with the “Taxes Paid” theme. The ticket was introduced on Dec. 29, 2014. Allen is the first Missouri Lottery player to uncover the $20,000 top prize. Track all Missouri Lottery games and prize amounts here at MOLottery.com.
