JOPLIN MAN WINS $100,000 PLAYING POWERBALL
The wife of a Joplin general contractor is celebrating after her husband won $100,000 in the May 22 Powerball drawing. Larry Effie, 64, said he plans to give some of the money to his wife, Karen, to buy a new Ford Thunderbird.
"I’ll give it to Momma (his wife)," he said. "We’ll probably put the rest in the bank."
Effie let the computer pick the winning numbers on the Powerball ticket he purchased at Halls Food Mart, 2002 Bird in Joplin. Those winning numbers were: 5, 20, 22, 23 and 34.
To date, 588 Powerball tickets sold in Missouri have matched all five white-ball numbers drawn to win the $100,000 prize.
