STEELE STORE OWNER WINS $100,000 PLAYING SCRATCHERS

Story Photo The owner of a Steele grocery store uncovered a $100,000 prize in the Missouri Lottery’s "Casino Cash" Scratchers game. Virginia Cable, 62, who owns Cables Grocery & Package in Steele, said she has been sold on the $5 Scratchers games since they came out in November 1999, and she won $500 on one of the tickets. On April 25, Cable bought four "Club Casino" $5 Scratchers tickets and one "Casino Cash" $5 Scratchers ticket; the one "Casino Cash" ticket turned out to be worth $100,000. "It was the best feeling I ever had," Cable said when she redeemed her prize on April 26. "I am thrilled to death." Cable said she plans to use the money to help pay off the loan on a new Lincoln truck she bought recently. She also will invest some of the money, and she will share some with her employees. "They earned it," she said. "They work hard." "Casino Cash," a $5 Scratchers game, officially went on sale on Oct. 27, 2001.
