As part of a Christmas gift, Charlotte Aldridge received some Missouri Lottery holiday Scratchers tickets from her husband, Mike. When those tickets returned more than $20 in prizes, Aldridge decided to buy additional tickets on Dec. 26. Out of the additional tickets she purchased, a “$100,000 Crossword Doubler” returned a belated Christmas gift to the couple in the form of a $100,000 top prize. Aldridge purchased her winning crossword-themed Scratchers ticket at Darnells Green Forest Grocery, 2605 Township Line Road, in Poplar Bluff.
“I was in my kitchen when I scratched it,” began Aldridge. “I think I double checked it eight times. I made a copy of it and used a highlighter to make sure I was correct,” the mother of one continued. “I woke him up and told him, ‘I got something to tell you, honey.’”

The wife and husband, an administrative assistant and self-employed worker, respectively, were still in shock when claiming their prize at the Lottery’s St. Louis regional office on Dec. 29. The couple had yet to make final plans for the $100,000 windfall saying that they would rather wait until they had money-in-hand before making any commitments.
