Carthage Store Sells Second Top Prize in a Month

December was a good month for Missouri Lottery Scratchers players at Pump N Pete’s, 1224 W. Central Ave., in Carthage – specifically those playing the holiday-themed “Holly Jolly Jackpot” game. In the span of just a few weeks, the convenience store boasted not one, but two, winners who had scratched off the game’s top prize of $50,000 on tickets purchased at that location.

The latest winner is 42-year-old Shirley House of Carthage, who plans to start 2015 with a paid-off vehicle, thanks to her win.

House purchased her winning ticket on Dec. 18, when an impulse to mix things up from her regular purchase of a $5 Scratchers game led her to the lucky $3 “Holly Jolly Jackpot” ticket.

“I actually bought four of them, and it was the last one I scratched,” she said. “That one was the big winner.”

House tried to remain calm as she went about her afternoon errands, but she soon decided to head east and go directly to the Lottery’s Springfield office to claim her prize.

Additional plans for her winnings include paying more bills, putting some money into savings and possibly working less overtime at the local Sonic Drive-In.

Earlier in the month, Tina Hatfield, also from Carthage, discovered another of the game’s five available $50,000 prizes on a ticket she, too, purchased at Pump N Pete’s.

To date, “Holly Jolly Jackpot” features more than $2.7 million in available prize money. Remaining prizes for this game, and all other Missouri Lottery Scratchers tickets, can be tracked at MOLottery.com.

In addition, all non-winning holiday-themed Scratchers tickets are eligible for entry in the “Hollywood Holiday” second-chance promotion, in which players can win one of four trips of a lifetime. Options include:  a trip to Los Angeles to see a Hollywood movie premiere, a trip to attend a private celebrity Oscar viewing party, a trip to watch the Grammys live or a trip to LA to experience “Dancing with the Stars.”

The Missouri Lottery reminds players not to give Lottery tickets as gifts for children under 18 years old.
