She wasn’t a regular Missouri Lottery player, but after seeing co-workers play often, one Carthage woman is making plans for the future with a $50,000 windfall. Tina Hatfield, 29, purchased a $3 “Holly Jolly Jackpot” Scratchers ticket at Pump ‘n Pete’s, 1224 W. Central, in Carthage.

“It was payday, and Friday, and I just looked at the counter and something was telling me, ‘Oh, let’s try it one more time.’ So, I spent $20 on tickets and that’s what I got,” explained Hatfield.

Hatfield, who works for a dry-cleaning business, was surprised to uncover such a large prize.

“When the ticket said, ‘Win up to $50,000,’ I really kind of thought, ‘Yeah, right.’ Until now,” said Hatfield, while claiming the prize at the Springfield Lottery office on Dec. 8.

She pointed out that the prize “wasn’t that much money,” but noted that it will allow her and her fiancé the opportunity to fulfill some lifelong dreams. They will be married in the spring and the money will be used to finance a home remodeling business. Her fiancé, Carl Morgan, is a contractor.

“This has been a together dream for about eight years now,” she said. She added that the money would also fund a proper honeymoon in Cancun.

“Just to make sure he and I have a good time,” she declared. “In 15 years, we’ve never really had a good vacation just to ourselves. It’s a major blessing and a great opportunity, and we’re going to take it and run with it.”

Holly Jolly Jackpot” is a $3 game that officially began Oct. 19. As one of the Missouri Lottery’s holiday-themed games, non-winning “Holly Jolly Jackpot” tickets are eligible for entry in the “Hollywood Holiday” second-chance promotion. The Missouri Lottery reminds players not to give Lottery tickets as gifts for children under 18 years old.
