Climax Springs Man Wins $1 Million

Tyler Nilges, of Climax Springs, was a lucky $1 million winner in the Nov. 7 MONOPOLY MILLIONAIRES’ CLUB drawing. The Top Prize was won that night by a player in New Jersey, which triggered a drawing of 14 MILLIONAIRES’ CLUB numbers. One of those numbers – 9321-0005-7906 – was on Tyler Nilge’s ticket, granting him the $1 million windfall.

The 22-year-old purchased his winning ticket at Woods Supermarket, 13655 N. State Highway 5, in Sunrise Beach. Nilges, who works at the retail location, said he purchased the winning ticket by an honest mistake.

“I was working the service desk the day I bought it, and service desk is where we sell the Lottery tickets,” began Nilges. “A (customer) wanted a Show Me Cash, a Lotto and a Mega Million ticket.”

After printing a MONOPOLY MILLIONAIRES’ CLUB ticket by mistake, Nilges placed the Quick Pick ticket in front of his register with the hopes that a different customer would purchase the ticket by the end of his shift. Fortunately for Nilges, nobody purchased the extra ticket.

At the end of his shift, Nilges had not yet decided on how to deal with the extra ticket, since it could not be cancelled.

“I thought, ‘Ok, it’s just going to mess up my count.’ So I bought the ticket.”

Nilges said that he plays the Missouri Lottery every once-in-awhile, but this was the first time he had purchased the new MONOPOLY MILLIONAIRES’ CLUB Draw Game.

By the time he claimed his $1 million prize at the Lottery’s headquarters in Jefferson City on Nov. 26, the St. Elizabeth native already had a few ideas on how he would spend his prize, including college.

“I haven’t really thought in-depth to that yet,” said the aspiring nursing student on where he would like to attend classes. Nilges stated that he did not want to leave Missouri, and he would prefer to stay close to home.

Other expenditures included paying off his current vehicle and buying a “hot rod.”

Nilges joins 13 other players in Ariz., D.C., Fla., Ga., Md., N.Y., Pa., Tenn. and Texas who were made millionaires as a result of the drawing that night. There were two winning numbers each drawn in Fla. and N.Y.

The Top Prize of $21 million goes to the player who matched all five numbers:  1, 9, 11, 12 and 27, as well as the Property Number 18 (B&O Railroad).

The MONOPOLY MILLIONAIRES’ CLUB lottery game went on sale October 19. Its unique play style features three ways to win $1 million. Players can win the Top Prize that is capped at $25 million. Once that Top Prize is won, a separate drawing that awards a minimum of 10 Millionaires’ Club prizes of $1 million each is conducted. Each week the Top Prize is not won, the number of $1 million prizes increases.

Players will also have a shot at a $1 million prize on the upcoming national primetime “MONOPOLY MILLIONAIRES’ CLUB” TV show, which will debut in February. The show will feature an audience of players who have been randomly selected after completing MONOPOLY-themed Property Sets by entering codes from their tickets at www.playmmc.com.

Select players will be flown to Las Vegas where the show will be taped, and they will receive a five-day, four-night stay for two plus spending money in Las Vegas. Billy Gardell, star of “Mike & Molly,” will serve as the host of the show.

The MONOPOLY MILLIONAIRES’ CLUB lottery game drawings are Fridays at 10:15 p.m., and tickets are $5 each. Currently, MONOPOLY MILLIONAIRES’ CLUB draw tickets are available in 23 states around the country.
