A visit to St. Louis with a family friend resulted in a $1 million Missouri Lottery prize for a St. Louis woman and a Kansas man. Gilberto Andrade from Garden City, Kan., was visiting friends and decided to go in on some Lottery tickets with Christina Aguilar of O’Fallon. They bought several tickets at Schnucks, 577 Mid Rivers Mall Dr. in St. Peters, including the “$1,000,000 Platinum Payout” Scratchers ticket that concealed the $1 million prize.

“He was visiting from out of town, from Kansas, and we went to Schnucks and bought a bunch of Scratchers,” recalled Aguilar, 32. “That was just one of the random ones we selected.”

She and Andrade, 50, uncovered the prize later that evening.

“We were surprised and beside ourselves,” he related. “Kind of like, ’Did we just see that right?’”

The friends bought the ticket on Oct. 30, but Andrade traveled back home for work before they could claim the prize. He returned to St. Louis and the pair each claimed half of the $1 million prize on Nov. 5. Both received a $350,000 lump-sum payment before taxes.

“Maybe just saving it,” suggested Aguilar regarding her share. “There are kids, college, all that stuff.

“He’s really excited, too,” she added of Andrade. “Like I said, it’s a surprise to all of us, because we’ve never really won very big; a couple thousand here or there, but nothing really big.”

She’ll keep playing and the Lottery, and joked that she suggested to her office pool that they might try Scratchers.

“There’s like 20 of us that play the Powerball,” she explained. “Everybody is just hoping for that big win so we can retire.”

Aguilar and Andrade claimed the 90th instant prize of $1 million or more. The Missouri Lottery has created 411 millionaires since 1986.
$1,000,000 Platinum Payout” is a $10 game that officially began May 19. This is the second top prize to be claimed in the game. More than $24 million in prizes, including one top prize, remain in the game.
