A 10-year Missouri Lottery tradition has paid off for one group of co-workers. A group of 12 federal employees from the Department of Defense have claimed the $1 million second-level prize from the Oct. 28 Mega Millions drawing. Every week for the past 10 years, the group of 12 participated in a pool to purchase Mega Millions and Powerball tickets using Quick Pick from the same Kum & Go, 130 Old Route 66, in St. Robert. The winning numbers drawn in the Oct. 28 drawing were:  3, 50, 57, 58 and 60.

The group consists of William Bennett, Matte DeJane, Thomas Rebuck and Andy Scott, all of Waynesville; Peter Hundt and Ronald Komoroski, both of Rolla; Frank Beasley and Peter Sjoberg, both of St. Robert; Richard Riebl of Dixon; Tommie Jones of Fort Leonard Wood; Richard Conway of Laquey; and Paul Garrett of Plato.

When the excited group claimed their prize on Oct. 30 at the Lottery’s Springfield regional office, they had just learned of their win.

“Someone checked the ticket at the store at 7 this morning,” said Komoroski, the spokesperson for the group. “The clerk had to scan the ticket four times to make sure they were reading it right.”

Once the $1 million prize is divided between each of the 12 members, each will take home more than $83,333. At the time of claiming the prize, no one had made any definitive plans for their money, but everyone was looking forward to having the extra windfall in their bank accounts.

Mega Millions is drawn twice a week with jackpots starting at $15 million that grow until someone wins. It costs $1 to play, and for an additional $1, players can add the Megaplier feature, which multiplies non-jackpot prize winnings up to five times their normal value.
