A restaurant manager from Springfield buys Missouri Lottery tickets twice a week before shutting down the register, and the routine resulted in a $250,000 top prize in $250K Triple Play on Sept. 24. Ronald Stacye, 58, said he regularly plays Show Me Cash and $250K Triple Play at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3404, 1136 E. Atlantic St., in Springfield. Stacye runs the restaurant for the Post, which serves breakfast and lunch.

“I love it. I love helping these guys,” began Stacye. “Usually, on a Saturday morning for breakfast, we can seat about 96, and it stays packed for about three hours.”

Stacye said he will bounce back and forth between the club and the restaurant, bringing items from the bar or selling Club Keno tickets to patrons. He always buys his Show Me Cash and $250K Triple Play tickets at the end of the day on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

“I like playing them. I don’t play the big ones unless it gets up way high,” he said. “To me, I like playing just in Missouri.”

He uses a couple of family numbers for one combination, but it was a Quick Pick ticket that landed him the $250,000 prize. Stacye found out he was a winner the day after the drawing.

“About 9:30 Thursday morning, I started scanning my tickets when we got a little spare time,” he recalled. “It was the very last one, and I had to go grab my reading glasses to make sure I wasn’t seeing too many zeroes. It’s a good feeling, there’s no doubt about that.”

Stacye kept the win quiet for a few days, waiting to tell his wife until later that evening.
“She said, ‘Well, can we buy a new toilet for the little bathroom?’ That was her first comment. She’s just like me, we’re kind of laid-back people,” he said.

That seems to be the only real plans they have for the windfall.

“Going to put $100,000 back for the retirement-type thing, pay off a few credit card bills and enjoy life a little more probably. We’re not getting any new vehicles, not moving. We’re fine with what we got,” he declared.

Stacye said he encourages some of the patrons at the VFW to play the Lottery.

“You can’t win if you don’t play. I’m not going to increase, and I’m not going to decrease. It’s the same. I’m a simple old boy. But, I would take another win, don’t get me wrong,” he concluded.

Stacye is the eighth player to win the $250,000 top prize in $250K Triple Play since the game began in February. The winning numbers for Sept. 24 were:  3, 17, 25 and 38. The VFW will receive a $1,000 bonus for selling a top-prize winning ticket.

$250K Triple Play is a $2 Draw Game with drawings on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
