Grandmother Wins $100,000 Lottery Prize

While on her day off, a Republic woman treated herself to one of her favorite Missouri Lottery Scratchers games and uncovered a $100,000 top prize. Marilyn Singleton, 63, purchased a $5 “$100,000 Crossword Doubler” on the morning of Sept. 15 at Rapid Roberts, 1278 U.S. Highway 60 E., in Republic.
Singleton, a hairdresser, was quick to bring her ticket to the nearest Missouri Lottery office in Springfield saying, “I scratched it off this morning and knew I had won something; I just didn’t know what.” After having her ticket verified at the Lottery office, the grandmother of four was excited to learn that her $5 investment would return a $100,000 prize.
Singleton said she always daydreamed about how she would spend her winnings if she ever won the Lottery. However, the shock took over after her big win, and she was at a loss. The grandmother did have some initial expenditure ideas, which included investing in a newer vehicle, some home upgrades and saving for retirement, but nothing definitive.
$100,000 Crossword Doubler” is a Missouri Lottery Scratchers game introduced on Oct. 14, 2013, that offers two game puzzles on each ticket. With more than $3 million in prizes remaining, Singleton was the sixth Missouri Lottery player to claim one of the game’s seven top prizes.
