A Madison woman used a little luck on the Missouri Lottery in Columbia to find a larger prize closer to home. Cindy Oliver said she’s a regular Powerball player and rarely plays Scratchers, but she took a chance on a ticket while in Columbia and won $20. On the way home, she decided to stop at Casey’s General Store, 115 W. Broadway St., in Madison.

“Got close to home, and I thought, ‘I might as well cash this in,’” began Oliver. “When I went in there, the one I played in Columbia, they didn’t have it at the Casey’s in Madison. So I said, just give me that one. I don’t know; I didn’t feel necessarily lucky, but I’m happy to have been blessed.”

Oliver, 52, ended up with a “$100 Million Cash Bonanza” Scratchers ticket. She uncovered the $10,000 prize in the parking lot.

“At that time, I thought I only won $500,” she recalled. “I didn’t know until the next day that I won more.”

Oliver went to garage sales the next day with her son, Kyle. Thinking the $500 would come in handy, she went to cash the ticket at a local retail location. She got a surprise when the clerk told her she would have to claim the prize in Jefferson City.

“When I was scratching it off, I scratched off the numbers, and it just said, “Cash,” and “$500,” she explained. “I didn’t read the bottom, where it says find “Cash” and win all 20 prizes.

“So then I’m scratching them all off, and I’m like, ‘Kyle, they’re all $500s!’”

They locked the ticket in the glove box until claiming the prize on Sept. 15.

The traveling nurse said she had just started a business with her son, Ultimate Cleaning. She’ll use the windfall to make repairs to her home, however.

“I’m remodeling my house,” said Oliver. “I’m going to put a new a roof on my house. So, it’s perfect.

“You never know, somebody’s got to win. It might as well be you,” she counseled. “It should be me!”

$100 Million Cash Bonanza” is a $20 game that officially began Aug. 4. The game has more than $107 million in prizes remaining, including all four top prizes of $4 million. Track prizes remaining here at MOLottery.com.
