MONROE CITY WOMAN WINS $5,250 AT STATE FAIR
The manager at Abel’s Quik Shop in Monroe City didn’t have to sell gas or potato chips to come out $5,250 ahead on Saturday. Melinda Dexter, 42, won the grand prize in the Missouri Lottery’s "Second Chance for Fun & Fortune" Game Show held at the Missouri State Fair in Sedalia.
"I kept thinking there are so many things I would like to spend the money on," Dexter told Lottery officials. "I definitely need a new refrigerator."
Dexter said she has attended the game show at the fair each year since 1996, but this was the first time she was a contestant. She said it is a tradition for her whole family to go to the State Fair each year for several days.
Fairgoers entered non-winning "Fun & Fortune" tickets purchased at the Lottery’s booth on Aug. 11 for a chance to become a contestant in the show, which started at 5:30 p.m.
During this year’s State Fair, the Lottery also is offering fairgoers a chance to win 20 daily prizes valued at $100 and a grand prize 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac SUV.
