A birthday surprise was just that for one Jefferson City man. Todd Williams came home from work on Aug. 22 to find a Missouri Lottery ticket that concealed a $100,000 prize. Williams said his girlfriend, Kendra, had purchased several “$100,000 Fortune” Scratchers tickets as a birthday gift. But, before scratching them, chores and a birthday dinner were the first order of business. After returning home, Williams got to work on his 27th birthday presents.

“We came back, and I sat down and started scratching a few off,” recalled Williams. “I was getting tired of scratching, so I told her to grab one. She scratched it off and said, ‘Oh!’”

Williams asked if she won a little money, to which Kendra replied, “Yeah, you won a little.”

When she showed him the ticket, he exclaimed, “That’s a lot of money there!”

“It was a five times symbol with $20,000 under it,” stated Williams.

The two got rather excited about the $100,000 win, but the busy life of an electrician kept him from claiming the prize for a week. He finally turned in the winning ticket on Aug. 29, his day off.

“We’re going to pay off her car,” he declared. “Put some money into savings in case work slows down. Try to invest it, make that stuff work for us.”
His advice to other players was “don’t count on it.”
“It’s worth a chance,” he explained. “If you have a few extra dollars, you might as well take a chance. Just don’t spend your house payment.”
This will be a hard birthday to top, but gift-giver Kendra isn’t deterred.
“She was pretty happy, really, because she said she was just going to buy a couple of the cheaper ones. But she ended up buying a couple of those, too,” said Williams. “She was really happy.”

The winning ticket was purchased at Bee Line Snack Shop, 6318 State Highway B, in Jefferson City.
$100,000 Fortune” is a $5 game that officially began April 14. The game features a top prize of $100,000, of which, two remain. This is the third Missouri Lottery Scratchers game to feature play areas on the front and back of the ticket. Williams uncovered his prize on the back. More than $8 million in prizes remain.
