A stop for gas in Jefferson City resulted in a $5,000 Missouri Lottery prize for a New Bloomfield man. Don “Billy” Werdehausen said it was about 8 p.m. when he stopped at Break Time, 1200 Missouri Blvd., in Jefferson City. He knew he was going to buy a ticket, and the store clerk pointed him in the right direction.

“The lady behind the counter actually told me, she said, ‘We’ve got a new game out.’ And I told her, ‘Well, I’ll try one,’” recalled Werdehausen.
That first “$500 Frenzy” ticket wasn’t a winner.

“I’m not going down without a fight,” he declared. “So, I threw $5 more, and this is what I got for it.”

Werdehausen said excitement began to build at the store while he scratched.

“The employees got excited,” he recounted. “They said, ‘Let’s add it up!’”
A regular Scratchers players, Werdehausen said he sometimes gets “feelings” that he should play.

“It’s a strong feeling for me,” he said. “If I look in there, and I’m looking around the tickets and just one of them happens to jump out at me.”

That intuition worked well for him this time. He said the money would likely be used to help pay for his oldest daughter’s upcoming wedding.

“Keep playing. It will happen,” he counseled other players.

$500 Frenzy” is a $5 game that officially began Aug. 4. The game features a top prize of $100,000 and is loaded with $500 prizes.
