Finance Student Wins Record Show Me Cash Jackpot

Glenn Floyd of Festus is a fast learner.  The full-time college student is majoring in finance and he has already made an investment that paid off in a big way.  Floyd, 19, invested $1 in a Show Me Cash ticket and received a return of $988,000 when he won the record jackpot on June 23.

Luck runs in his family.  His mother, Paula Rosetta, recently won the Missouri Lottery’s “Triple Play at the Raceway” promotion, winning an all-expense paid trip to Sonoma Raceway in California to see a stock car race.

“My mom actually called me from California and told me to buy a Show Me Cash ticket because she noticed the jackpot was really getting up there,” he explained.  “So I went to the store where my sister works to buy a ticket.”

Floyd purchased his ticket at Ingrams Market, 3812 Highway Z, in Mapaville.  He explained that he left the ticket in the car and “kind of forgot about it.”

“I went to the airport to pick up mom up from her California trip, and she saw my ticket.  She decided to check the winning numbers on her phone,” he explained about her logging onto MOLottery.com.   “That’s when we thought that I had won the jackpot, but we still weren’t sure.  So we pulled into the nearest convenience store to check the ticket,” he said with a chuckle.

Floyd says he will use his newfound fortune to pay for college tuition.  He is currently a student at Jefferson Community College and plans to transfer to the University of Missouri-St. Louis this fall.  He is also an A+ Scholarship recipient, getting free tuition to attend community college for two years.  The A+ Scholarship Program allows high school students to earn free tuition by maintaining a 2.5 grade point average, maintaining  95 percent attendance and performing 50 hours of tutoring during their high school career.  Missouri Lottery proceeds fund 71 percent of the A+ Scholarship Program.

“I guess the Lottery will be paying for all of my son’s college education,” his mother, Paula, confided.  “We really like the Lottery.”

“What’s left over from my tuition, I plan on investing,” Floyd stated.

The previous record Show Me Cash jackpot was a jackpot worth $898,000, won on Oct. 4, 2012, by two ticket holders-a player in Ste. Genevieve and a player in Perryville.

Show Me Cash is a daily Draw Game with jackpots that start at $50,000 and grow until someone wins. Floyd claimed the 316th jackpot since the game began in 2008.
