ST. JOSEPH MAN WINS $50,000 TAX PAID

A retired meat packer racked up a $50,000 tax paid* prize after matching all five numbers drawn in Saturday night’s SHOW ME 5 Paydown drawing. Lee Todd, 81, of St. Joseph said he plans on using his winnings to get an eye exam and a new lawn mower. "I’d like to have lost my breath," Todd told Lottery officials when he claimed his prize on Monday. Todd purchased his winning ticket at Break Time, 6108A Lake Ave. in St. Joseph. He let Quick Pick select the winning numbers. They were: 1, 7, 31, 33 and 34. SHOW ME 5 Paydown, a daily game, began last November. It has a top prize of $50,000 tax paid along with a Paydown feature that, if the top prize is not won that night, the other prizes will more than double. The game also offers prizes for matching two, three and four numbers. The overall odds of winning a prize are 1 in 10.97. * The Missouri Lottery will pay 28 percent federal and 4 percent state withholding taxes for the top prize based on it’s value. Depending on personal income, winners may owe additional taxes for the prize, or they may be entitled to a refund. Total value of the top prize is $73,529.41. After withholding, winners will receive $50,000. If more than 14 players match the five winning numbers in a single drawing, $1 million will be divided equally among the number of winning tickets.
