Kansas City to Host Conference on Addictions, Recovery June 25-27

The Hilton Kansas City Airport will be the site of the 11th Annual Midwest Conference on Problem Gambling and Substance Abuse, themed “Prevention, Treatment, and Recovery in an Era of Change.” The conference, which runs from June 25-27, is a result of a joint endeavor by the Midwest Consortium on Problem Gambling and Substance Abuse (MCPGSA), a committee comprised of addiction specialists, problem gambling program coordinators and organizations throughout a five-state region – Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska and Oklahoma. The three-day summit will feature more than 25 workshops and presentations from internationally and nationally renowned experts in the fields of problem gambling, substance abuse, co-occurring disorders and suicide prevention.

The event kicks off at 9 a.m. on June 25 with a general session keynote address presented by Donna M. Doolin, lead public health advisor at the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).
MCPGSA President Carol Spiker said, “The Midwest Conference is a unique collaboration of professionals coming together to offer high-quality training to conference attendees.
“The MCPGSA Program Committee is delighted that we have so many talented presenters to share their research and work,” said Spiker, who noted that all of the general sessions are free and open to the public.
