A mother and son from Nixa have split a $1 million Missouri Lottery Scratchers prize. Geraldine Pryer said her son Terry bought the winning “$1,000,000 Platinum Payout” ticket on May 30. He scratched the ticket at home, but didn’t believe the amount until he claimed the ticket on the morning of June 2 at the Lottery office in Springfield.

“I wanted to make sure it wasn’t fake or anything,” he explained. “I’ve never won that much on just one Scratcher! I put it in a book so I’d know where it was at, and I kept getting it out and looking.”

After claiming the $1 million prize so they could breathe easier, Geraldine still didn’t have any plans for the windfall.

“I can’t think of anything I need,” she said. “But, I’m sure I’ll spend it. I’ve got grandkids.”

She did joke that maybe she can quit her job as a Wal-Mart greeter, now. Terry, 53, works at Sam’s Club. The two will split the lump-sum payment of $700,000.

Both are regular Scratchers players, but Geraldine said Terry was the luckier of the two. Her biggest win of $200 was just a month ago.

“He wins,” she said. “I just don’t.”

$1,000,000 Platinum Payout” is a $10 game that officially began May 19. This is the first of three $1 million top prizes to be claimed in the game; two more remain. Pryer bought the winning ticket at Kum & Go, 402 Massey Blvd., in Nixa.
